Rwandan poet, Umihirwe Yasipi Casmir, came 1st Runner up at the Miss Rwanda finals which took place on 26th of January in Kigali. Based on the theme of “Beauty, Brains and Culture”, Yasipi convinced the judges with her beauty, eloquence, a dynamic personality, and by her poetic talent.

Last year, Yasipi participated in a Secondary School Poetry Training organized by Transpoesis, a Rwanda- based organization which aims at empowering Youth through poetry. Transpoesis Director, Dr. Andrea Grieder, who was at the Miss Rwanda ceremony, was very pleased with Yasipi’s outing, stating that “Poetic talent and creativity are the wings of success”.

The Secondary School Poetry Training, which the future beauty queen attended last year, was run by Transpoesis in partnership with the Swiss Cooperation, as a contribution to development and tolerance in society.

At the poetry competition, Kigali Vibrates with Poetry, Edition 10 (October 2018), her poem Humanity 60, received the Nyirarumaga Award for Best Poem in English
